Took me long enough, but I finally finished another of my season five project scripts. Guilt by Association can be read by clinking on the link.
In addition, I wrote Our Little Secret, a short fan fiction story for Séverine, who wanted a late third season Lee and Amanda story. Happy Reading!! Today is the 29 Anniversary of the premiere of Scarecrow and Mrs. King and just as I did for Chuck last week, I decided to write a list of my top 15 favorite Scarecrow and Mrs. King episodes. I would love to hear your thoughts. 15. Ship of Spies Lee and Amanda go undercover on a cruise ship for engaged couples and to maintain their cover—they get married!! Love the wedding kiss – how nervous they both seem, Lee leaning in for a second kiss, and finally the look of total surprise. I love how Lee pops-up in the milk cooler and how Amanda changes her mind about spending the weekend with her friend to go on a cruise with Lee. And of course, how Amanda saves the day by figuring out the clues. I also love the tag. I am half-way through the SMK Season Five Screenwriting project. Script number six, I will be posting next week (once I get it back from the betas). Nevertheless, I would love some feedback on where the rest of the season should go - kind of like interactive fiction. What would YOU have liked to have seen if there had been a season five of Scarecrow and Mrs. King? Any comments, suggestions, feedback on the first six scripts? Don't be shy, I am open to ideas. This is your season too.
Also, I will be posting a new SMK fan fiction story soon. A short, little one-shot, set season one, between "There Goes the Neighborhood" and "If Thoughts Could Kill." I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and write early Lee and Amanda. Sadly, this story was supposed to be submitted to the SMK 30th Anniversary zine, but because of an illness, I missed the deadline. Lastly, I am always open to story suggestions. Anyone have a request? No, I’m not talking about the Lincoln-Douglas debates – although good in their own right. I want to answer the great Lee and Amanda dispute of did they or didn’t they? Now, get your mind out of the gutter. Yes, we could debate whether Lee and Amanda waited to consummate their relationship before marriage, and for a long time I have been on the fence regarding this topic. The way some of the lines were written in season four, it sure gave the impression they did not wait until marriage, but again this was a family show, on during the family hour, and Bruce Boxleitner said at the 25th reunion, he thought Lee and Amanda waited until marriage. But I digress. I am talking about whether Lee and Amanda would have had children.
I believe Lee and Amanda would have expanded their family. I think Amanda would have been happy to give Lee the chance to be a father. I also think the two little words, “I’m pregnant,” would have brought forth the big reveal to the family and the Agency had there been a season five. However, I have gotten into virtual fisticuffs with some passionate fans who quiet amicably say Lee and Amanda would never have children, because of the nature of the jobs and how hard Amanda worked to become a full-time agent. Yes, I agree, Amanda had worked hard to become an agent, and it would have interfered with her job and she could not be running around ‘watching’ Lee’s back if she was pregnant, and then she would have had to take time to have a baby. On the other hand, I believe she would have wanted to have a child with Lee – to share in the experience of raising a child with him. I am sure he would have made a great stepfather, but I think Amanda would have loved to given him a chance at fatherhood, since she knew he desired to have a family after not being a part of one for so long. Yes, it would have changed some of the dynamics of the show, but I still think Lee and Amanda could have continued to work at the Agency and grown their family. What do you think? Even though I am thrilled season three of Scarecrow and Mrs. King was finally released this past week, and now waiting not so patiently for season four, I had been planning to write this entry for a while. I love Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and am grateful we had four wonderful seasons and 88 fun episodes; however, I do have some favorites and not so preferred episodes, but still a thousand times better then anything on today, especially reality television. I thought I would start with my “Least Favorite” episodes first. As a side note, I am not a fan of the last four episodes of the series, because of the absence of Kate (although I understand the reason behind her absence)—the show was no longer fun and missed the amazing chemistry between Kate and Bruce.
I posted a new ficlet for Annette who wanted a Lee and Amanda story set around Halloween.
Tears Into Wine This story was actually a bit of a challenge as there are several Halloween themed SMK stories, in addition I wanted to set the story during season three and when looking at the air dates, Halloween would have fallen around the time of "Sour Grapes", and there are a couple of great tag extensions already written, so my challenge was to write something different, and this is what I came up with. I hope you like, Annette. A special thanks to Beth for proofing the story last night. No, I am not thinking the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet—in my opinion, the best couple ever is Scarecrow and Mrs. King’s Lee and Amanda. There are three reasons why I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever; these reasons are fate, chemistry, and the natural progression of their relationship.
To begin with, I am firm believer in fate. On a train platform swarming with people, Lee grabbed Amanda from the crowd. Why her? And why did she agree to take the package? In addition, if she had been able to pass the package, their paths most likely would have never crossed again. Was it destiny? Yes, they were meant to be together. Moreover, what is more romantic then meeting your soulmate at a train station? The train symbolizes a journey—perhaps into a new facet of life, or a new relationship. It symbolizes a powerful force that is guiding like fate. A chance encounter at a train station changed both their lives. The second reason, I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever is their chemistry. I don’t think any couple from any television series had more chemistry then Bruce Boxleitner and Kate Jackson. They were never supposed to become a couple. In fact, in the original pilot script Amanda was married to Dean. How different the show would have been if Amanda was sneaking out on her husband, instead of my mother and sons and spending her evenings with the handsome spy. However, from the very beginning, there was an instant spark, unresolved sexual tension, and as a fan of the characters, I wanted to see them get together. Lee and Amanda were the first television characters I shipped. Shipping is derived from the word relationship. It is the belief two characters have romantic feelings towards each other and these feelings will lead to a potential relationship. Which leads into the third reason I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever, the natural progression of their relationship. One of the reasons I do not care for television today is the loose morals. How couples hop into bed without the development of being a couple first. Therefore, I could not care whether they stay together or not. Lee and Amanda’s relationship was slower, therefore more natural. Both coming from different worlds; he is Lee Stetson, one of the top federal agents in the country, a risk taker, a rule breaker, looking for the quick thrill, whether running in with the gun or cheap one-night stands. She is Amanda King, a homemaker, divorced mother of two small boys, whose days are filled with little league, Junior Trailblazers, bake sells, and PTA meeting. Lee thought of Amanda as an untrained civilian, a nuisance, a homemaker having no business being involved in the world of espionage. She thought of Lee as a skirt-chaser, insufferable, and ungrateful, yet what do they say about opposites attracting. Slowly Lee began to trust Amanda and began to rely on her instructs, and Amanda was able to see behind the ‘Scarecrow’ mask to find a caring, sensitive man, who would even risk treason for her. Reluctant partners brought together by an unlikely ‘emergency’, coworkers to partners, friends to best friends, strangers to falling in love with each other. Both believing they were content in their own worlds, neither looking for the other, yet a moment of desperation led to the ultimate declaration of love. It was pure magic! For these reasons, I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever. Their relationship has always given me contentment, warm fuzzies, and intense joy. I’m reposting for Narelle who wanted all the details about the SMK reunion I attended back in 2008.
The Event: The 25th Anniversary of Scarecrow and Mrs. King. The Location: The Beverly Garland Hotel in Burbank, California. When: October 3-4, 2008 Fans got the opportunity to visit with SMK cast members and I was one of the lucky few! It was also a chance to meet many of my online friends, who share my addiction to SMK. Thursday I flew from Seattle to Burbank Thursday afternoon where I was picked up at the airport by the lovely Jen V. She took me to the Beverly Garland Hotel where I checked in, sharing a room with Buffy and Neeney. We hung at the pool for a while and then several girls and I took the subway to Hollywood Boulevard, we walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, found Beverly Garland’s star, viewed Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the famous hand-prints, walked past the Kodak Theatre, saw the famous “Hollywood” sign from the distance, and did some shopping. Then we took the subway back to the hotel for dinner. My top ten favorite Scarecrow and Mrs. King tags broken down by seasons. Magic Bus I love the teasing, so early Lee and Amanda. Already the chemistry is there and sparks are flying. And are they flirting or what? She asks him to say something nice about her work and him telling her, “Not bad.” Her leaning towards him and both of them looking into each other’s eyes, almost daring the other, “Care to change your opinion?” “That is so petty.” Love it! I saw this posting on another website this morning. I hope this is true and not some sick joke, but until I see presale orders on WBSHOP, Amazon, or TVSHOWSon DVD.com I won't get too excitied (although all fingers and toes are crossed).
Press Release Webwire – Wednesday, December 08, 2010 – Burbank, CA – Dashing secret agent Lee Stetson (Bruce Boxleitner) and single-mom-turned-amateur-spy Amanda King (Kate Jackson) are back for another entertaining season of crime-stopping adventures on “Scarecrow & Mrs. King: The Complete Second Season,” to be released by Warner Home Video March 22, 2011. This title will feature all 23 one-hour episodes from the Emmy Award-winning series’ sophomore season and will retail for $39.98 SRP. Order due date has been set for February 15, 2011. American spy Lee Stetson and his housewife sidekick Mrs. Amanda King are really going places in Season Two, fighting the Cold War in London, Munich, Salzburg and the Caribbean! Kate Jackson (Charlie’s Angels) and Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) again play the mismatched operatives, mixing laughs, intrigue and battle-of-the-sexes verbal jabs. Amanda is targeted by a white-slavery ring. Lee and his mentor, dithery Lady Emily Farnsworth, hunt for stolen plans for a top-secret plane. Amanda is the other woman in a headline-grabbing sex scandal. And Mrs. King becomes Mrs. Scarecrow on a romantic wedding cruise, complete with veil, vows and smooch at the altar – all in the line of duty, of course! The Emmy Award-winning “Scarecrow & Mrs. King” first premiered in 1983 on CBS and aired for four successful seasons. “Fans of the show love Jackson and Boxleitner’s characters and the great chemistry they share on this series. Their wonderful performances, coupled with clever dialogue and entertaining story lines makes this one of the great, unforgettable shows of the 80s,” said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. “Fans have shown an overwhelmingly positive response to ‘Scarecrow & Mrs. King’ on DVD, so it gives us great pleasure to bring them another season of this highly-regarded series.” Can we say duh? Yes, we love this show and can't wait for the remaining seasons to be released. Update: Annoucement Woo-hoo!!!! On October 3, 1983, I was a high school sophomore recovering from Mandibular Advancement surgery, and trying to keep my mind off pain and boredom, I turned on the television. Little did I know this evening would be a night of chance encounters? I only happened to turn the channel knob to CBS and witnessed Federal Agent Lee Stetson, codename Scarecrow, plead with a total stranger to help him, in what he later termed an “emergency.”
Amanda King, a divorced housewife, who just happened to be at on the platform, dropping her boyfriend off at train station, because he thought it would rain, agreed to take the package. She was supposed to hand it to the man in the red hat. I laughed out loud, when she climbed onto the train, wearing only a nightgown and an overcoat, simply to discover there were twenty-five men in red hats on that train. This lead her to inadvertently became embroiled in a secret mission and in the end successfully saving Lee. Scarecrow and Mrs. King was not quite like anything else I had ever watched, and it charmed and captivated me. I was drawn-in by the chemistry, the characters, and the comedy. Later seasons the chemistry blossomed into romance, and we had characters that cared about each other, and we cared about them. This is what made the show a success then and still to this day. When I first watched “The First Time” little did I know it would be the start of a 27-year obsession with Scarecrow and Mrs. King. I would have never guessed I would have been consequently invested in the show so many years later, but I love this series as much now as I did back then. It was and still is my most favorite television show. . . ever. Thanks to MACHMABEL on the SMK Forum. She started a thread asking us to name our favorite SMK moments. Here are my favorites:
Much of my writing revolves around a young Lee Stetson. Why? The answer is because my muse seems to be a young boy around the age of seven or eight years old, with hazel eyes, sandy-brown hair, and two adorable dimples. He tells me the stories of his youth. Really! Sometimes I can hear him talking to me so clearly, it’s scary. I find the character of Lee Stetson, codename Scarecrow, to be a very complex man, and my stories try to explain how his experiences in his youth shaped him into the man he is today (or rather 25 years ago). |
